Academia Institute to Host Open House Sunday
The learning center will offer language & cultural studies for children and adults

Academia Institute of Language & Culture is opening in Oak Park with a celebratory Open House Sunday, June 11 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The new learning center is located at 308 Madison St., near the intersection of Ridgeland and Madison.

Academia will offer courses focused on language, cultural and social studies. These classes are targeted for people of all age groups with the youngest class open to children 3.5 to 6 years old.

The adult classes will cover philosophy, art history, spoken word, photography, music appreciation and creative writing. Some of the languages that will be taught include French, Spanish, Greek, Japanese, and Mandarin. These classes will vary in difficulty from beginner to expert.

For parents looking for convenient and flexible drop off options, there are three membership programs available.  ‘Little World Travelers’ offers 36 hours a month of cultural activities and play for $248 for 3.5 to 6-year-olds.  Drop off is anytime between 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for up to three hours. Memberships for 6 to 10-year-old children are available for the summer vacation months, along with a discounted package for siblings.

Director of Language and Children’s Curriculum, KayCee Militante says that she hopes the unusual interior and innovative teaching approaches will make this a place children are excited to spend time in.  “There’s something about lounging on gorgeous rugs and floor cushions that instantly sends the message to kids that this isn’t school as they know it!”

Those who are curious to learn more about Academia are encouraged to attend the open house on Sunday. Until then, you can visit the learning center’s website at chicagoacademia.com.
