A press release from April 9th summarizes the board of education’s decision to increase teaching assistant wages by 6% in the first year of the recently negotiated four year contract.
Teaching assistants will also receive an increase in premium when serving as substitute teacher from an additional $3 to $6 an hour. This will keep wages in line with the rapid growth projected by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers.
The press release acknowledged “The board of education, administration and Oak Park Teacher Assistants’ Association (OPTAA) understand and appreciate how vital our teaching assistants are to the success of our district. That is why we are pleased to announce that we have come to terms on a new contract that recognizes the contributions of these dedicated
employees, and reflects the critical role they play in helping every child we serve learn, grow and achieve.”
This salary agreement was announced in conjunction with the announcement of four new appointments to the administrative team. Gina Herrman will serve as senior director of human resources, Michael Tanner as interim assistant superintendent for finance, Donna Middleton as senior director of special education and Patrick King as director of finance.
