Driver killed moments after a traffic stop in Oak Park

The driver of a sedan who was traveling through the intersection of South Boulevard and Ridgeland Avenue in Oak Park was killed after being struck by an SUV. Oak Park Police say that the incident occurred on Saturday at about 10:30 p.m.

Officers had stopped the SUV on South Boulevard near Humphrey Avenue just moments before the crash. After pulling the vehicle over, police say the SUV sped away as the officer was walking up to the vehicle. The driver of the SUV then ran a red light and hit the sedan.

A passenger that was in the sedan was left critically injured. That individual is recovering at Maywood’s Loyola University Medical Center, according to the police report.

Officers were able to apprehend and arrest the suspect driver of the SUV, who was attempting to run away from the scene of the accident. Details regarding age, sex, and race of the person have not been disclosed.
