Flavour Cooking School, the hands-on culinary academy on Madison Street known for building confidence in each student’s abilities, will close at the end of the month.
“It is with great sadness that I announce that Flavour Cooking School will be closing our doors at the end of August,” said owner Denise Norton in a heartfelt letter to the community. “This decision, as you can imagine, has been made with a great deal of contemplation and more than a little anguish.”
Norton revealed that the business had been struggling for some time, which ultimately led to the decision to shut down the culinary school.
The classes that have already been scheduled for the remainder of the month will carry on as planned. However, store hours for the business have changed from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, according to Norton.
“This is a very difficult time for us all, including my amazing staff,” Norton continued in her letter. “Please, help us leave with dignity, respect and kindness. I’m certain you all know that I will greatly miss what we have shared together.”
Many community members have shared their regret to hear the news on social media. “We have been enriched by the store, the classes, but especially by you and the community you encourage, over great food,” said Janet Walters Rouse of Oak Park.
The business will be selling items including fixtures, merchandise, furniture, and more from now until they eventually close their doors.
