As we move into the new year and holiday decorations come down, the Village of Oak Park has begun holiday tree collection as a service to Oak Park residents. The collection will be ongoing from January 7th to January 14th on regular trash collection days. All of the trees collected by the Village are turned into mulch at a composting facility and reused as soil enrichment.
Here are the guidelines to follow to ensure that your tree is picked up:
- Remove all decorations, lights, and stands
- Place your tree in your regular collection area before your collection day. Note: If your collection area is an alley, leave the tree in the alley and not on a parkway.
- Do not use a plastic bag or other disposal bag to cover the tree. If you do so, your tree will not be collected.
- Wreaths and garlands cannot be recycled due to wires included. Please dispose of these in a trash container.
If you miss your usual collection day, the Village will still pick up your holiday tree as long as it is tagged correctly. You can purchase the required pink bulk refuse sticker from Village Hall or a local grocery store for $3 each.
