Under new ownership, Marion Street Market, a culinary icon in Oak Park since 2008, will re-open Feb. 11.
The Market, located at 100 South Marion Street, will now be run under new majority owner and operator Grant Slauterbeck. Slauterbeck has extensive experience in the bar and restaurant industry, and is also the CEO of GCC Chicagoland, a hospitality firm with over 40 years of experience. “I couldn’t be more excited to take this restaurant to the next level. The Oak Park community has been nothing but supportive and we can’t wait to re-open with a taste of something for everyone,” says Slauterbeck.
Expect many visual changes at the new Marion Street Market. Slauterbeck has reclaimed the old wood flooring, added rustic tabletops (seating anywhere from 6 to 18 diners) and contemporary details. A new ventilation system and gas utilities allows for the expansion of the Market’s upgraded menu. The new Marion Street Market will also feature live music and a large heated patio, a great touch especially during the summertime.
As far as the menu goes, the Market will feature grab-and-go items such as healthy wraps, salads and drinks during the daytime at the new Espresso Bar. As the night rolls on, grab-and-go items will feature more savory options such as rotisserie chicken and hearty duck meatloaf. Chef Bret Bohning will feature high-quality ingredients on the menu such as prime steaks. Produce and other ingredients will come locally from farms such as Ubral Till, Nichols Farm, Swan Creek and many more. Experts will also be on-site to assist diners with the vast cheese and charcuterie case.
Local spirits, international wines and craft beer will be the centerpiece for the Market’s bar area. Slauterbeck intends on shaking up the cocktail scene at the new Market with a variety of house-made savory, sweet and spicy sodas. Three-ounce, six-ounce and bottle-pour options will be available for their vast variety of international wines as well as a build-your-own flight option.
Hours of operation include Monday-Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A special Valentine’s Day tasting menu will be available from Friday, Feb. 12 to Sunday, Feb. 14.
