New travel team, Alliance Soccer Club, rapidly growing in OPRF

OPRF Alliance Soccer Club is a competitive youth travel team that offers skill development for players age 9-16 in Oak Park, River Forest and surrounding communities. The club was founded in 2012 and is coached by experienced parent volunteers who are dedicated to developing young players while keeping the game fun and interesting to kids.

“There is such a huge dropout rate of kids who play competitive sports. We want to change that trajectory and keep kids active,” said Alliance SC Co-Founder Regina Ripley. “We also believe that kids can grow in progress. Each of the players on the team are valuable and have potential.”

Before each season, players set out goals for themselves both long and short term. The volunteer coaching staff works with each age group to help them achieve those goals. For example, most Alliance SC players set out to make their high school teams, and they have achieved that every year since the club’s inception.

“We have seen children grow and progress on the field and with confidence in their own playing skills,” said Ripley.

Even though the club is only three years old, Alliance OPRF has already achieved success in both tournament and divisional play. The U12 Black team placed first in both their 2014 Fall division and Fall 2013 division (when they were U11).

It’s not only about winning titles, however, as the club focuses on developing more than just soccer skills. “Alliance measures its success in player development and whether players are enjoying themselves,” said Ripley. “We want this to be fun and we want kids to continue to want to play.”

As the club looks ahead to the 2015-2016 season, they will be fielding teams for the following age groups: Boys U10, U12, U13, U14, U15 and Girls U10, U11, U13, U15, U16, U17. Tryouts will be held Tuesday, May 12 through Thursday, May 28. Click here for specific times and dates for each tryout.
