A man died Friday night at the Austin Boulevard Blue Line station in Oak Park after being struck by a train and later touching the electrified third rail of the tracks.
The death has been ruled as an accident, and an autopsy from the Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the cause of death as electrocution.
The man has been identified as Louis M. Delao, a 47-year-old Cicero resident. Delao was hit by the train at roughly 7:15 p.m. and was pronounced dead at 8:08 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Oak Park fire officials responded to the call where they curtailed trains in both directions to one track for two hours as crew members worked to clear the area. During the time of the incident, the CTA ran shuttle buses between the Cicero and Harlem stations, according to transit officials.
This is the first fatality to occur at the Austin Blue Line Station since December 2015, when a man’s body was found underneath a train.
