The off-Broadway hit, “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” comes to Oak Park this weekend for its opening performances. The first show is Friday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. at the Open Door Theater and the production runs through Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, according to a press release from The Open Door Repertory Company.
The show is centered on a quartet of women dubbed The Wonderettes, who enchant the audience with some of the most popular music from the 50’s and 60’s. Songs in the production include Lollipop, Dream Lover, Stupid Cupid, Lipstick on Your Collar, It’s My Party, Son of a Preacher Man, Respect, and Sincerely, according to the press release.
The New York Times claimed the show to be “One irresistible musical! An utter charm bomb!”
The performance is directed and choreographed by Ashton Byrum, who has appeared on Broadway and several national tours. Some of the performances Byrum has been featured include A Christmas Carol, Fiddler on the Roof and Grease, according to the press release.
Elya Bottiger, Sarah Conrad, Lauren Kerbs, and Molly Kral comprise the cast. “The Marvelous Wonderettes” was written and created by Roger Bean.
