Police investigating 4th of July shooting


The Oak Park Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place during the early morning hours of Monday, July 4 at the Shell gas station located at 401 W. Madison St. The incident left a victim with several gunshot wounds, according to police reports.

According to police, the shooting occurred at 1:42 a.m. in the parking lot of the Oak Park gas station. The victim is described as a 20-year-old man from Chicago. After being shot multiple times, he was taken to Loyola Medical Center where he received surgery for his wounds. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The victim intended to pay with cash for his gasoline purchase, so he walked from his car to the service entrance, where he waited for the attendee to return. While waiting, an unidentified shooter approached the victim and fired several shots, according to police.
