Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer. Those days of soda and pretzels and beer.

That is exactly what will be happening this weekend in downtown Oak Park. It seems like summer routines are in full swing and the dog days are officially upon us (as evidenced by my hair’s extreme increase in volume and frizz these past few days). For the record, why are dog days considered such a negative? Dogs are our proverbial best friends! I personally think these sultry, humid days are quite nice. Here is to enjoying these last few friendly summer weekends in style.

On with it!

Silent Movies on the Porch

Friday night, just as the sun starts to go down and the majestic lights of Mills Park are turned on, head to the front porch of the Pleasant Home for a screening of “Safety Last” featuring live piano music by Thomas Holmes. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., movies begin at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $10 and popcorn is available for purchase.

As mentioned in yesterday’s post, the streets of downtown Oak Park will turn into something of a Biergarten this Saturday from 3-7 p.m. Adorn yourself with your finest DIY pretzel necklace and enjoy tastings of local beers and ciders at this zero waste event.

Get checked in early so you don’t miss the bagpiper that signals the start of the event! It’s sure to give you chills on what will inevitably be a balmy summer afternoon.

Take it away, Nat King Cole!
