If you haven’t already gotten into the holiday season, this weekend marks a wonderful start with a handful of events to get you in the mood.
Start off your weekend this Friday, December 5th for the Forest Park Holiday Walk. Bring the kids to see Santa when he starts off the festivities at 6PM by lighting the Christmas tree in Constitution Court located on Madison and Thomas Ave. Santa will arrive by fire engine, which seems to be his preferred method of transportation these days. Take a photo with Santa between 6:30PM and 8PM at the Forest Park National Bank, 7348 Madison St. If you are looking for a few activities while you are there, enjoy some hot chocolate or hot cider (the adult kind may be available in some places) and take a walk up and down Madison St. as many of the businesses will have elaborate displays in their windows that will make you laugh, feel nostalgic and even create new memories.
On Saturday, December 6th if you haven’t had your fill of walking yet, participate in Downtown Oak Park’s annual Cookie Walk. From 11AM to 5PM enjoy frolicking between over 40 participating shops and restaurants to collect cookies in your souvenir tin. Start the walk at the hospitality warming tent located at Marion St., south of Lake St. Participation is $20 which includes your souvenir cookie tin and a map of all of the participants. And since it’s St. Nick’s Day, try to find the old fella in the hospitality tent where free hot chocolate and coffee are being provided. There are also a number of events from live music to a comedy act, which you can find at many of the local businesses.
And on Saturday and Sunday, December 7th from 10AM to 5PM is the Pleasant Home Holiday Art Sale. Find one of a kind gifts and beautiful handcrafted works of art including scarves, photography, jewelry, quilted linens, holiday decorations and more. Pleasant Home is located at 217 Home Ave in Oak Park. There is no cost for this event.
