Woman bites bar staff, damage to IHOP computer and other unusual crimes in Oak Park


Here are a few unusual crimes and arrests the Oak Park Police Department has reported over the past few weeks:

Versie Jones, 50, of the 3500 block of South Rhodes Avenue, Chicago, was charged with attempted theft and battery after allegedly being caught with her hands inside a victim’s purse at Lake Street Kitchen + Bar, 1101 Lake St., at 8:32 p.m. Aug. 22. Jones fled the restaurant but was chased and detained by Lake Street Kitchen + Bar staff. While waiting for Oak Park police to arrive, Jones allegedly bit a staff member on the right forearm in an attempt to escape.

Three female suspects pushed over a table and damaged a computer screen at IHOP, 6501 W. North Ave., after becoming impatient with their wait between 6:45 a.m. and 6:55 a.m. Aug. 22.

A male juvenile stole a bicycle valued at $99 from another juvenile after helping the victim fix a dislodged bike chain between 6:15 p.m. and 6:31 p.m. Aug. 22 in the 1000 block of Pleasant Place. The offender was last seen on southbound Marion Street.

Two juveniles damaged the legs of an outdoor patio table and a sandwich sign while fighting each other at Red Mango Cafe, 1044 Lake St., between 10:20 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Damages were estimated at $340.

Someone approached a victim in the 400 block of Harvard Street and asked to use the victim’s cellphone at 5:15 p.m. Aug. 24. After making several calls, the offender fled the scene on eastbound Harvard with the cellphone, which was valued at $80.

Someone stole a queen size metal bed frame valued at $90 from the rear of a residence in the 800 block of North Ridgeland Avenue between 11 a.m. and 12:22 p.m. Aug. 22.

Someone entered a home in the 600 block of Lombard Avenue and stole three feet of copper piping and a hot water tank valued at $800 between 6 p.m. Aug. 20 and 8 a.m. Aug. 21.
