Two people were killed and three officers were wounded in a shootout that occurred at roughly 7:19 a.m. Sunday on the 100 block of Lathrop in River Forest, police said in a statement this afternoon.
Officers responded to a “woman with difficulty breathing” call, according to police radio recordings. Upon arriving at the home, officers were ambushed by 24-year-old Matthew Watson who was armed with a shotgun. Watson was killed as a result of the police-involved shooting after Watson opened fire, according to a report from NBC.
60-year-old William Carlson also died as a result of 20-30 gunshots fired back and forth at the scene. His body was found when officers entered the home, according to reports.
Three officers were wounded as a result of the incident but are expected to make full recoveries, according to officials.
The River Forest and Oak Park Police Departments are currently investigating the incident but have not released additional information as to what caused the shooting, according to a report from ABC.
