5 Options for Super Bowl Sunday

This year’s NFL Playoffs have been thrilling to watch and it all comes to an end this Sunday at Super Bowl 52 in Minneapolis when the reigning champion New England Patriots (sigh) take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Eagles fans will be flocking to the Land of 10,000 Lakes where tensions are still high between the two fan bases. If you were on social media two weeks ago, you more than likely saw Viking fans taking some serious verbal and physical abuse from bird fans.

Because of this, there are reports of Minnesotans signing up to become Uber drivers to pick up the Philadelphia faithful and take them as far away from US Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis as possible. This makes me laugh because I lived in Minnesota for four years and I can honestly say they are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, so I’m having a hard time believing that a Minnesotan would actually carry out this plan.

I can’t say that I blame them though. Check out this quick news clip from KARE 11 NBC Minnesota:

Crazy stuff. Lucky for us, we are (mostly) Bears fans. With no real stake in the outcome of the game, Super Bowl Sunday is an excuse to get together with family and friends, but it still begs the question of where. Read on to find out the best deals and options for Super Bowl Sunday in the area.

1) Avenue Ale House
825 S. Oak Park Ave.
Oak Park

If you want to get the party started early, go to the Super Bowl Sunday Funday Party at Avenue Ale House. The Ale House will open at 11 a.m. and feature the following specials: $5 Bloody Mary’s, $12.50 Coors/Miller buckets, $6 premium cocktails, $5 Fireball shots, 75-cent Wings, $8 pizzas. Besides the specials, Ave Ale House has over 100 varieties of beer. Don’t hurt yourself by trying to sample them all, but if you get a big enough group together you might just be able to cover the spread.

2) Bar Louie Big Game Giveaway
1122 Lake St.
Oak Park

Bar Louie is enticing us to spend Super Bowl Sunday with them with a chance to win 1 of 50 gift cards to the restaurant. Starting now, you can visit this link- http://bit.ly/2nBX12O to answer five different questions about the Super Bowl- How long will it take Pink to sing the national anthem, what team will score first, etc. Winners will be notified by email via the address used to enter the competition. Even if you don’t end up a winner in the raffle, burgers are only $1 with the purchase of a drink.

3) Sláinte
7505 Madison St.
Forest Park

Sláinte has the best prices of any bar in the area. The bar will feature $2.75 domestic bottles, $10 domestic buckets, $4 bomb shots, $5 Bloodies, and $5 burger with fries. I highly recommend this place if you are trying to enjoy the Super Bowl on a budget. It’s an added bonus if you appreciate the ambiance of a traditional Irish pub.

4) Fat Duck Tavern & Grill
7218 Madison St.
Forest Park

Pizza and football go together like peas and carrots, as Forrest Gump would say. However, I’m hard-pressed to believe that you’ll be eating vegetables during the game. So, if you are interested in some pie, I recommend going to FatDuck. The bar is offering $5 for cheese/pepperoni/sausage pizzas and they aren’t skimping on the drink specials either. Customers are welcome to $5 Absolut Bloodies, $5 Mimosas, and $12 domestic buckets.

5) Host or Attend a Party

You don’t have to go to a bar to enjoy the Super Bowl. Some of my favorite NFL moments came from watching the big game in the living room or dorm room or somewhere I can’t quite recall because my memory gets a little fuzzy during these types of events. This year, why not go all out? Look up fun recipes. Go to the grocery store to load up on appetizers, drinks, and decorations. Set up a board to play Squares, toss a toy football around, vote on the best commercial. Wherever you end up, enjoy America’s unofficial holiday.
