Join local community and church leaders tomorrow, December 14th, at 1pm in Scoville Park for a Black Lives Matter Walk and Rally. Organizers encourage attendees to either meet at your local congregation or feel free to come to Grace Episcopal Church at 924 Lake Street in Oak Park by 12:45 to start the rally from there. Marchers will meet in Scoville Park at 1pm for songs, prayers, a reading of victims’ names, speakers, a procession around the park and a closing song. The Rev. Ms. Shawn M. Schreiner from Grace Episcopal Church will be the MC for the event. You are invited to carry signs displaying the words “Black Lives Matter”.
Organizers are urging people to march peacefully. They have posted the following on their Facebook page as a reminder of why the rally is being organized:
“We will be a witness against a justice system that is not working and share that we do not believe excessive force to and killing of unarmed black men is acceptable in the a country of the free and brave. We are not gathering to vilify the police or confront the police. We are grateful for their presence with us. We will gather to begin a process of creating systems and people that are just.”
