On Monday (May 30) afternoon, hikers in Thatcher Woods, a forest preserve located west of Chicago in River Forest, came across the body of a 19-year old man.
Shortly before 2 p.m., on a trail near Thatcher Ave and Division St, two hikers came across two bags. The first bag contained articles of clothing, while the second bag contained the body of a 19-year old man in a state of advanced decomposition.
According to the Chicago Tribune and Cook County medical examiner, the man has been identified as Fernando Casas of Stone Park, Ill. The Cook County medical examiner believes Casas died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen. His death has been ruled a homicide.
