Two storefronts were damaged on the 200 block of Chicago Avenue due to a car crash that occurred at roughly 2:15 a.m. Thursday morning.

A 25-year-old from Chicago, Larell Jackson, was arrested in connection with the crash. Jackson was charged with driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving on the sidewalk, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Investigators say that Jackson was driving west on Chicago Avenue and left the roadway, hit a street light pole, and then struck the two storefronts. The crash caused the brick facade to fall onto the vehicle. There were three passengers in the vehicle at the time. One of the passengers was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The drive, along with the two additional passengers refused medical treatment.

The damage to the stores is extensive. To maintain safety in the area, all utilities have been disconnected. Village officials are working to assess the structural integrity of the buildings in the meantime. The Oak Park Police Department’s investigation is still ongoing.
