Holiday tree collection underway
The Village’s refuse hauler is collecting holiday trees through next week. Trees should be placed by the bins at regular refuse collection points. Since the trees are mulched at a licensed composting facility, please do not leave them in plastic disposal bags or with any decorations still attached. Wreaths and garlands cannot be collected for recycling because they contain wire – place them in the trash container. For more information, call 708.358.5700 or email
Recycle holiday lights through January
Residents have through this month to recycle their holiday lights by dropping them off from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Public Works Center, 201 South Blvd. Mini-lights, C7 lights, C9 lights, rope and LED lights, as well as extension cords, are accepted for recycling. For more information call708.358.5700 or email
Sidewalk shoveling required
Property owners who shovel their sidewalks are doing more than making it safer for pedestrians of all ages – they also are complying with the law. Village ordinance requires snow and ice to be removed from the public sidewalk within 24 hoursfollowing any snow, sleet or freezing rain. If the ice becomes too difficult to shovel, use a melting agent. Being a good neighbor is important, too, so property owners are urged to help those who may need assistance clearing a sidewalk. For more information on the shoveling requirement or help resources, call 708.358.5700 or email
Be sure refuse, recycling containers are accessible
Snow in alleys can sometimes make it difficult for refuse haulers to empty trash and recycling containers. To avoid a missed pickup, residents are asked to make sure access to their bins is not blocked by snow.  To report a missed pickup, call Waste Management, Oak Park’s contractor, toll free at 888.656.5350.
