A man prevented two would-be carjackers from stealing his vehicle Sunday morning on the 1100 block of South Taylor Avenue in Oak Park, according to police.
The victim was approached by two men after parking and exiting his vehicle on the street. One man displayed a handgun while the other demanded his wallet, car keys, and phone. After refusing to give up his possessions, a physical struggle ensued before the two assailants ran off.
The man who thwarted the armed carjacking suffered a minor abrasion but did not require medical attention, according to police.
Video surveillance captured images of two males in their late teens or early twenties wearing dark, hooded jackets in a nearby alley off Taylor Avenue. Police are currently investigating the crime but believe the footage might offer clues in their search.
