Oak Park Man Fatally Struck By Vehicle Near Ridgeland & Garfield

An Oak Park resident walking near the intersection of Ridgeland Avenue and Garfield Street, just south of the Eisenhower Expressway, was struck by a vehicle shortly before 9 p.m. Monday night. The 56-year-old man passed away early Tuesday morning as a result of his injuries.

Police say that the driver responsible is a 69-year-old woman who also happens to be an Oak Park resident. The motorist was traveling south on Ridgeland Avenue and claimed that a pedestrian ran in front of her vehicle when she was about halfway through the I-290 overpass.

The driver has been cited with failure to reduce speed in order to avoid an accident, and no other charges have been issued as of the writing of this article.
