The Oak Park Public Library is celebrating Black History Month through its new series, More Than a Month, to move beyond dedicating a single month to black history and achievement.
More Than a Month kicked off on Feb. 7 focusing on the influence black culture has had on our society and the imprint of the African diaspora on the black experience in other cultures. The event also featured a self-named documentary, “More Than a Month,” a first-person narrative of one filmmaker discovering the prominence of Black History Month.
The next event will be the Langston Hughes and Thyra Edwards: Internationalism and the Spanish Civil War, Saturday, Feb. 13, 2-4 p.m., followed by numerous book discussions and meet-ups. More event listings and information about More Than a Month can be found on the Oak Park Public Library’s website.
