Oak Park woman charged with felony theft

Oak Park resident Alexa Botwin, 31, has been charged with felony theft after stealing as much as $10,000 from New Life Lutheran Church in Bolingbrook, according to a criminal complaint from Will County.

Botwin was hired as a secretary for the church three years ago. In the April 2013 church newsletter, New Life shared its enthusiasm about welcoming the Oak Park native.

“We are excited about her sharing her many gifts and talents in serving the Lord through this congregation,” according to the newsletter. “Please feel free to stop by during office hours and introduce yourself and welcome her to New Life.”

The criminal complaint filed in Will County county stated that Botwin stole funds from the church between December 2013 and August. She remains at large and the warrant for her arrest carries a $75,000 bond. It is possible that Botwin is in the Oak Park-RIver Forest area.
