Wright home and studio to offer free tours
Free tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, 951 Chicago Ave., will be offered on Sat., Dec. 5. The first tour will begin at 10 a.m., with the final tour leaving at 4 p.m. The Home will be decked for the holidays with poinsettias, fresh flowers, evergreens and wreaths in keeping with the Wright family tradition. The event also will feature a 15-percent discount on purchases from the Home and Studio Museum shop and free gift wrapping. Visit for more information.
Lake to screen A Christmas Story
The holiday classic film A Christmas Storywill be screened at 10 a.m., Sat. Dec. 5, at the Lake Theater, 1022 Lake St. Free tickets are available at Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest located just across the street from the theater.
Park free on weekends
Shoppers can park for free in the business district garages on weekends prior to Christmas, as well as for two hours at meters and in lots in some business districts. Free Saturday parking is available in the Holley Court Garage downtown and the Avenue Garage just east of Oak Park Avenue on North Boulevard. Parking also is free for two hours at bagged meters and pay by space stations downtown and in the vicinity of South Oak Park Avenue. Parking always is free on Sundays. Shopping locally important to Village economy
Residents who take advantage of retailing and dining opportunities in Oak Park play a key role in maintaining economic vitality and the sales tax revenues essential to funding important public services. Recycle holiday lights
If new holiday lights are on your shopping list, recycle the old ones. A holiday light drop-off box is available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at the Public Works Center, 201 South Blvd., during December and January.
