Police investigating first Oak Park shooting of 2016


The Oak Park Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that took place during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 28. Officials are calling it an isolated incident that does not involve any Oak Park residents, according to a news release from the village.

At roughly 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, at least one shot was fired on the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue, resulting in a gunshot wound to the midsection of a 21-year-old male from Berwyn. He was taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood where he was listed as in serious but stable condition following surgery.

According to police, the victim and three companions had exited the CTA Blue Line station at Oak Park Avenue and were walking southbound on Oak Park Avenue when they exchanged words with the occupants of a sedan parked at the curb facing southbound.

The sedan then started to slowly follow the group of four before witnesses reported hearing a gunshot, which is believed to have come from the driver’s side rear window. The sedan then fled southbound down Oak Park Avenue, according to the news release.
