As an allergy sufferer, spring is typically filled with dread, crumpled up tissues (my husband can attest to this) and runs to the chemist for Claritin. I’m determined to embrace the season this year and dose myself just enough to inhale all the damp smells of the Earth waking up from a long winter slumber. Spring is a cliche literary symbol of awakening and romance for a reason – maybe it’s time for me to slow down and soak in all the wonder. Here is to embracing the pollen and reveling in the beauty and possibilities of sprint time.

Spring Wine Walk and Shop

Forest Park’s Madison Street Wine Walk and Shop has become a signature event! Visit over 14 shops while tasting wine and locally prepared small bites. Tickets are $45 each and are available for purchase at here on their website. Same day tickets can be purchased at Forest Park Bank.

Earth Fest / Public Work’s Open House

Leslie Knope herself couldn’t dream of a more festive Earth Day. More than 70 businesses and organizations are scheduled to participate in the event, which will include Public Works tours, activities for kids, live entertainment and several recycling opportunities. Since its inception in 2010, Earth Fest has served as a way for environmentally-conscious Oak Parkers to engage with a wide range of vendors providing hands-on activities, environmental services, free samples and goods for sale. Oak Park residents will also have a chance to meet members of the Village Board and the Village’s Environment and Energy Commission, which advises the Village Board on issues related to environmental conservation.
