Happy International Women’s Day!

I’d like to encourage you to take a minute or two to celebrate the women in your life and those in leadership who are paving the way. 131 women were elected to Congress this year! I am personally thrilled to be visiting with many of the women in my family along with close friends this weekend at my baby shower. There is something so special about the support that women give other women. It has a power that is unmatched by others.  In the words of Beyoncé, “Who run the world? Girls!”.

Here is what’s going on around Oak Park this weekend:

WOW! Women Owned Works
Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Harrison Street, Arts District
Women-owned businesses in the Oak Park Arts District are having their second annual event encouraging people to shop on Harrison Street. Participating businesses will be marked with yellow decorations.  This is a great way to celebrate International Women’s Day!

The Human Element
Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Lake Theater
Renowned photographer James Balog has created a film about the ways environmental changes are affecting the lives of Americans. Air, earth, fire, and water are explored along with the fifth element: the human element. A question and answer session will follow the film, featuring the film’s producer Olivia Ahnemann.

The Knave of Hearts
Saturday, 3:00 p.m.
Sunday, 2:00 p.m.
Doris Humphrey Memorial Theater
MOMENTA, a local performing arts company, is having their Spring Family Matinee featuring a Mother Goose inspired original ballet. This ballet continues next weekend as well (March 16 & 17) so you have a few chances to catch the show!

5th Annual 2018 Community Health & Wellness Fair
Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
FFC Oak Park
Local health experts and professionals will be at the annual health fair. The fair is packed full of events and presentations including free fitness classes, rock wall sessions, and more. There will also be valuable health screenings available. The event is free, but they do ask that you register ahead of time. You can do that here.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
